Superior Court

The Superior Court is a constitutional Court, meaning it was established by the Constitution of the State of Delaware. Superior Court is the highest level trial court in the State of Delaware, and the only one that can handle felony cases, and complex civil litigation

A constitutional amendment later separated the Court, dividing it from the Supreme Court, but some appellate powers remained with the Superior Court. It is one of the busiest trial courts in the state.

Superior Court handles a variety of civil, criminal, appeal, and administrative matters, as well as the involuntary commitments of the mentally ill to the Delaware Psychiatric Center.
